In a video interview published by Nintendo of America today, head of software development Shinya Takahashi discusses the success of popular Switch titles — and stealth reveals that new updates are being worked on for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

The surprise came when the tweet containing the footage was published earlier this morning. Designed to give the director’s insight into some of the Switch’s biggest games, Takahashi touches on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. However, before all of this, he touches on the integration of Nintendo Labo in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. It is at this time that he states that further updates will be coming to the smash hit racing spin-off.
At this time, it is unclear of Takahashi is simply referring to more Labo compatibility in the future of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, or if something more is on the way. Previously, it was believed that the 2017 title was done receiving major content, but Nintendo has also been notorious for extending support for Splatoon and Splatoon 2 much longer than initially intended. In fact, both games have been worked on by the same development team, leading to more evidence that something larger may be coming.
