One of Nintendo and Retro Studios’ best kept secrets may have finally been cracked, as evidence supporting the development of “Star Fox Grand Prix” — a Diddy Kong Racing-esque racing title — has surfaced online.
Although news recently surfaced that Retro has a key part in porting Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze to the Nintendo Switch, that did not answer the years-long mystery of what new project they might be working on. While many speculated that they are developing an entirely new IP, fresh “leaks” to both Reddit and 4chan point instead towards a reimagining of the long-running Star Fox series.
While these individual sources typically would not garner much credibility alone, reliable news source Eurogamer has backed up the claims, stating that they have heard the same information. According to all involved, the title will be a bit of mixture between Diddy Kong Racing and F-Zero, being fast paced racing with a hub world, adventure mode, and boss battles. No other details were given at this time.
While nothing has been confirmed, if the project does exist, it will almost definitely be revealed at this year’s E3 next month.
