Super Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot Data Confirmed to be Used for Future Reference

A blast from the past: In a recently recirculated translation of the terms and conditions for the Super Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot in Japan, it is stated that all data would be used for future reference and not simply DLC — pointing towards an impact on Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch.

According to a translation of the original Japanese Smash Ballot page conducted by Source Gaming back in 2015 — which was recently brought back to light by the site itself — all data and entries collected by Nintendo may be utilized for future titles. At the time, this wasn’t too notable since the focus was primarily on DLC for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS. However, with Smash for Switch on the horizon, this may lend a hint towards future characters.

While it is unknown how certain characters faired in the Ballot outside of Bayonetta — the overall winner — some hints may have been made in the DLC Mii Costumes that were put in the game. Most notably, outfits for King K. Rool from Donkey Kong, Geno from Super Mario RPG, Takamaru, Tails from Sonic the Hedgehog, and the Inklings from Splatoon were just a few included. With the Inklings already being confirmed for the newest installment of Smash, there’s a decent chance some of the others find their way over as well.

Although it is unknown when Nintendo might spill more detail forth on Smash for Switch, it is at least known that something must be said prior to the Super Smash Bros. Invitational at this year’s E3 in early June.
