Kirby’s friends return from series’ games
Today’s Nintendo Direct was big. Several Nintendo Switch games received highlights on the show, including the soon-to-be-released Kirby Star Allies. Though much of it has been seen already, there is one bit yet to be covered.
As seen in the video above, Kirby Star Allies has a friend mechanic beyond its simple recruit system. “Dream Friends” are unique companions with a special connection to Kirby.
Each Dream Friend is both playable as a character and available as an NPC companion. Each appears to have a unique playstyle, as well as some connection to a past Kirby game. King Dedede, Meta Knight and Bandana Waddle Dee; for example; may be included both as staple characters and for their role in Kirby’s Return to Dream Land.
The following is a list of the other characters revealed so far:
- Rick & Kine & Coo (Kirby’s Dream Land 2)
- Marx (Kirby Super Star)
- Gooey (Kirby’s Dream Land 3)
All of these characters will be included as an update, shortly after launch. The Direct also tells us that more Dream Friends are on the way, noting that this is only the first update. Who these other characters might be is anyone’s guess, though Prince Fluff (Kirby’s Epic Yarn) and Adeleine (Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards) are likely.
Kirby Star Allies will release for Nintendo Switch on March 16. The first free update will be made available on March 28.
