According to multiple sources, an HD remaster trilogy of the of the first three Spyro the Dragon series titles is in the works for PlayStation 4 in late 2018 — with ports coming to other systems in 2019.
Reports on the potential remaster surfaced early this afternoon out of online gaming publications Kotaku UK and Gematsu. The trilogy is apparently set to bring Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage!, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon into the current generation. Activision will be handling the project similar to the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, with studio Vicarious Visions once again adding new assets, lighting, animation, art style, cinematics, and music to the classic platformer action title.
Supposedly, the official announcement for this project will occur in March with the game being planned for a Q3 2018 release window on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro. This will only be a timed exclusive release, however, as the Spyro the Dragon trilogy remaster will then be ported to other systems in 2019. Exactly which other platforms is yet to be known at this time.
Previously, the most recent title that Spyro has been a part of was Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure, which released on multiple platforms in 2011.
