Monthly event to celebrate game’s community
Niantic announced yesterday the launch of Pokemon GO Community Day—an event to celebrate the game’s many fans. It occurs several times each year and has a few incentives to encourage community participation.
Yes, rather than being an annual event, Pokemon GO’s Community Day is monthly. As Niantic describes it, it is an opportunity for trainers worldwide to meet up at local parks, socialize and catch Pokemon.
Each Community Day is to feature a special Pokemon; a familiar face, but one with a unique move, exclusive to that event. For instance, the first event is to feature Pikachu, and those caught will have the move Surf. Pikachu, like the later special Pokemon, will appear more frequently during the hours of the event.
Of course, a surfing Pikachu isn’t all there is to the event. Also on this day, other bonuses will be in effect, including double XP, and Lure Modules will last three hours.
The first Pokemon GO Community Day is to happen on Saturday, January 20. It won’t last very long however, so it is recommended that trainers mark their calendars.
The following is the released times of the event, listed worldwide:
The Asia-Pacific region: January 20, 2018, from 12:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. JST
Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India: January 20, 2018, from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. UTC
The Americas and Greenland: January 20, 2018, from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. PST
