Burnout Paradise HD Remaster Boosts Onto PS4 March 16 in Japan

‘Take me down to Paradise City’

Not burned out on this one: Developer EA has revealed that an HD remaster of the 2008 open-world racer Burnout Paradise is in the works for release early this year.

The information was confirmed yesterday and first reported on by online gaming news source Gematsu. This updated reveal follows months of fueled speculation in regards to what may happen next for the Burnout series of racing and vehicle-destruction titles. In December, a supposed leak of retailer supplies for a Burnout Paradise HD remaster surfaced on a Brazilian blog, with no confirmation until now.

As some have been quick to discuss online, there are several points of controversy over EA’s decision with this release already. While a North American localization and Xbox One port is almost surely in the works, it is somewhat peculiar that the title would hit Japan first — only in a PlayStation 4 format. In addition, many long-time fans of the series have spent years clamoring for a Burnout 3: Takedown remaster, instead of yet another rehashing or revisit to Paradise.

Although the Xbox One is significantly less popular in Japan than the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, the original Burnout Paradise released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC back in 2008 — a stark contrast to the exclusivity that it now appears to hold.
