The expansions adds 135 cards and new Dungeon Run mode
The Kobolds and Catacombs card reveals are nearing their end. After this week, there looks to be only week left. Because a release date was announced and the expansion is now dropping in exactly one week.
It was announced by Blizzard recently that Hearthstone’s next expansion, Kobolds and Catacombs, will be released on Thursday, December 7. This means players only have seven more days now to collect all the gold they need to purchase packs with. Same goes for the standard pre-order deal; 50 card packs and a special card back for $49.99; which disappears first day of the expansion.
Kobolds and Catacombs is sure to shake things up immediately. Given the power level of many of the cards we have seen already, the meta will change quickly. A new expansion also brings with it a short grace period, a few weeks of players experimenting and searching for the most successful strategies.
This holiday season, Hearthstone has given its fans plenty of new toys to puzzle over. The new Dungeon Run mode is one such puzzle, a new adventure format that emphasizes decks unique to that mode and quick, intense encounters. Each of the 135 cards will make an appearance here, alongside a few extra.
We won’t know how successful Kobolds and Catacombs is until launch day. But if it is as good as it looks, then Hearthstone is looking to close out a rather amazing year. Un’Goro revolutionized expansions by adding new card types and keywords (e.g. Quest cards). Knights of the Frozen Throne took that further with the Death Knight cards and brought back the adventure format. Kobolds and Catacombs adds legendary weapons and the ‘Recruit’ keyword, and livens up the adventure component with a unique format.
It’s an exciting time to be a Hearthstone fan.
