In what has already been a crazy week for fighting game guest character announcements, developer Bandai Namco has confirmed that Noctis Lucis Caelum from Final Fantasy XV fame will be crashing onto Tekken 7 next year.

The surprise guest character announcement was made in a trailer released to commemorate the Tekken World Tour Finals that concluded last night. This comes just one day after the reveal of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles joining the ranks of D.C. superheroes in Injustice 2, as both unveilings have sent shockwaves throughout the fighting game fan and competitive communities.
In terms of Noctis himself, he is now the third major guest character to join or be confirmed for Tekken 7’s character roster — behind Street Fighter’s Akuma and The King of Fighters’ Geese Howard. However, Noctis stands out from that bunch in that he is the only representative not originally from a fighter title, yet instead from the tradition RPG Final Fantasy series. As such, it appears that his fighting style from his own game has been uniquely “translated” to fit into Tekken 7 seamlessly.
On top of Noctis’ inclusion, it appears that a stage based on the infamous gas station from Final Fantasy XV will also be coming as DLC. This stage looks to include the likes of a chocobo, Gladiolus, Ignis, Prompto, and Cindy. Presumably, there is a day-night cycle available for the level as well, since various times of day can be seen in the trailer.
While no specific release date or pricing has been set, the first DLC pack 1 — which includes Ultimate Tekken Bowl and additional costumes — was priced at $13.99 MSRP. In fact, no date has yet been set for DLC pack 2 and the release of Geese Howard, which has only been tentatively set for “Winter 2017”.
