Prepare for trouble: It appears that Team Rocket will be making a grand return in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon, according to promotional product images out of Japan.

The tantalizing information was discovered on the back of digital download cards for each of the two versions in Japan, according to popular Pokémon website Serebii.net. The card for Ultra Sun looks to feature a female Rocket Grunt in a battle pose, while the Ultra Moon one instead has the male counterpart. Both also include an image of what could be made out to be Team Rocket’s headquarters, emblazoned with the trademark large “R” on the front of it. As some of pointed out, this building looks strangely similar to the Aether Foundation headquarters in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon.
This reveal could likely hint at some larger story implications for the two new series installments. Seeing as how the infamous Team Rocket has not been featured largescale in a Pokémon title since HeartGold and SoulSilver, this could point towards a potential revival of the nefarious group — and their iconic leader, Giovanni.
While no further information has been given, it’s safe to say that Team Rocket will have a larger role than a simple cameo — akin to the appearances of both Red and Blue in Pokémon Sun and Moon. The inclusion within promotional material means that The Pokémon Company believes fans will be excited to see the dark team involved once again, and a potential take over of the Aether Foundation shows that they mean business.
Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon are slated to hit the Nintendo 3DS on November 17. Earlier this month, we reported on a new overview trailer for the game, showing off exclusive Ultra Beasts and yet another team — the Ultra Recon Squad.
