Last month, we covered the beginning of the qualifiers for the 2017 Nintendo World Championships, a contest that returned in 2015 after an absence of 25 years. And after a month of qualifying events, it would seem we have our contestants.
This morning Nintendo released a video on their YouTube channel announcing this year’s Nintendo World Championships, having obtained their competitors for the big New York event.
This year’s World Championships are unique in that they add another age category, absent from 2015’s contest. The 2017 NWC will be divided into two categories: 12 & under and 13 & up.
Each age category includes eight qualifiers, with potentially a few familiar faces amongst them, most notably the return of the NWC 2015 champion, John Goldberg.
The competition itself will be held in New York City, in Manhattan Center’s Grand Ballroom. The event will take place October 7 at 5 p.m., with free tickets given out at the door to all attendees, on a first-come, first-serve basis.
While we don’t know much about the specifics of the competition yet, we do know that Metroid: Samus Returns will be one of the featured titles. To prepare, each of the competitors was given a copy of the game along with a new Nintendo 2DS XL.
