In a surprise move by Square Enix, Final Fantasy IX was made available digitally for PlayStation 4 overnight, offering a high-definition take on the timeless classic.
Revealed as part of Sony’s press conference at the Tokyo Game Show early this morning, what some consider the best Final Fantasy title is now available for purchase as a discounted digital bundle on the PlayStation store. The bundle includes the game itself — with new HD up-res, trophies, game boosters, and auto saves — as well as a theme and eight character avatars. Although rumored for quite some time, no official announcement for Final Fantasy IX on PS4 was made prior to today’s sudden release. Fans of the series will want to take advantage of the discounted sale price of $16.79 quickly, however, as the listing will go back up to $20 as of September 26.
