Ain’t no rest for the wicked: developer Gearbox — the creative minds behind the hit loot-and-shoot Borderlands series — has given the strongest hint yet that a coveted third installment is on the way.
While no official confirmation was made, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has revealed that the majority of his company’s producers and staff are “working on the thing I think most of you guys want us to be working on”, as conveyed by Dualshockers. Speaking to a crowd at PAX West, Pitchford also intended to quell anticipation a bit, stating, “A product does not exist until it’s announced.”
Although it’s been in a three year hiatus, Borderlands has not left the spotlight, as rumors of been rampant for years. Just last year, Pitchford confirmed that his team was indeed working on something related to the series, but would not confirm the highly anticipated “three-quel”. In addition, owners of publisher 2K Games — Take-Two Interactive — announced that one of their largest IPs would be receiving an installment in 2019, without any further details on which that may be.
The original Borderlands released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2009, with a sequel in 2012 followed by Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel in 2014.
