Junkertown — a new escort type map and also the area of origin for character Junkrat — has officially be unveiled for Overwatch as part of Blizzard’s Gamescom plans.
In one of two trailers published to the PlayOverwatch channel today, the Aussie-located map was previewed. Amongst torn down store fronts of the make shift town, players will be escorting a payload of Junkrat’s stolen treasure from outside of the front gate all the way to the “Queen” of Junkertown.
Judging from the video, the map looks to feature numerous different map elements, including narrow corridors surrounding wide-open battleground areas. There also appears to be a moving propeller-like structure that users will surely take advantage of for turrets and the like.
In addition, developer Blizzard also posted an animated short detailing the backgrounds of both Junkertown, as well as the chaotic duo of Junkrat and Roadhog. The video gives more insight into the lore behind the partners, which has previously been mostly unexplored. However, it does not appear that this is the cinematic short scheduled to be revealed on Wednesday that Blizzard teased last week.
No release date for the map is yet known, but it will no doubt be hitting Overwatch’s Public Test Region soon, with launch coming on the live servers shortly after.
