Shovel Knight has always had something special for each of its system versions. That is, except for PC. Until now.
Earlier this morning, it was announced via the Yacht Club Games Twitter page that the Battletoads exclusive content of the Xbox One version will be coming to PC as well. While Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove is set to release for PC on August 24, the Battletoads content will be added as a free update later in October.
Developed in cooperation with Rare, the Battletoads of their titular game enter Shovel Knight in the form of an optional, multi-step boss fight (presented as a ‘training session’). As an encounter, it features some fairly unique content, including a Battletoads-inspired race and a fight while descending a cave shaft, as Shovel Knight takes on Zitz, Pimple and Rash.
It’s a difficult fight, but completing the encounter gives you a special set of armor. The ‘Toad Gear’ is a brilliant emerald in color and it enables Shovel Knight to run when double-tapping a direction. Additionally, it allows Shovel Knight to do a power dive when pressing down in mid-air, and basic attacks are much faster, with a powerful combo hit at the end of a chain.
It’s unlikely the Battletoads content will move onto any other platforms—the same for the Kratos boss fight of the Playstation 4 version—but it was teased on Twitter that more news of the upcoming King Knight expansion will be released soon.
