Hearthstone’s latest expansion, Knights of the Frozen Throne, has now surged into the meta, with 135 new cards to play with.
We’re still in the experimental phase at this point, with players learning what cards and strategies are ladder-viable. The game might be a little slow this first day because of the high traffic, but it’s a good time to play if you want to experience a wide range of decks and cards.
Speaking of cards, there’s a few opportunities this week to score some free ones. Any player who logs on this week will be given three Frozen Throne card packs for free. Additionally, beating the prologue of the Icecrown Citadel adventure component will give you one of the nine death knight hero cards for free. And if you can manage to make it through the first wing, you’ll get another free Frozen Throne card pack.
Of course, Icecrown Citadel won’t be easy necessarily. This expansion’s adventure component is said to be harder than the previous ones, meaning a lot of trial-and-error with a little bit of boss exploitation.
Here’s a few strategies you might want to try for the bosses of the first wing:
- Marrowgar: Marrowgar has a deck heavy on deathrattles and 1-damage board-clears, and his hero power allows him to heal to full each turn for 0 mana. He also has a 4-mana 0/8 minion that deals 15 damage to your face at the start of his turn. To beat Marrowgar, you’ll have to OTK him, and maybe with the help of his own minions.
- Saurfang: Saurfang has 20 health but he only takes damage from weapons, meaning he’s totally immune otherwise. Additionally, he has a number of 5-mana 2/4 minions that heal him each turn. To beat him, you’ll likely want a Warrior or Rogue deck with a lot of weapons and removal.
- Lady Deathwhisper: Unlike Saurfang, Deathwhisper has a lot of health. And by a lot, we mean a lot; 120 health, to be exact. Her 0-mana hero power damages all enemy minions until they have 1 health remaining. You have a 30/5 dragon to begin with in this fight, but it can’t attack or be attacked as long as it is damaged. Of course, Deathwhisper doesn’t have any board clears, so there’s no reason to be too worried.
The second wing of Icecrown Citadel comes out next week, along with more opportunities to win free stuff. If you can manage to beat the Lich King at the very end with all nine classes, it’s already been confirmed that you’ll get the new Arthas alternate Paladin hero.
Stay tuned for more Hearthstone updates and best of luck opening card packs!
