New artwork published by Nintendo may be pointing towards a new underwater kingdom being included in Super Mario Odyssey — Mario’s next great 3D platformer adventure.
Intended to be used as new phone wallpaper artwork, the screens included in today’s tweet from the official Japanese Super Mario Odyssey account appear to contain a hint of something bigger. As many have quickly pointed out, the Power Moon collectible that is featured in the image is purple — a color of Power Moon that has not yet been associated with a known in-game Kingdom.
So far, it is known that Power Moons — this installment’s version of Power Stars or Shine Sprites — are to be collected in each Kingdom that Mario travels to on his journey. Of the six Kingdoms confirmed so far, cheep-cheep enemies and an underwater environment similar to the one pictured has only appeared in one of the known Kingdoms: Cascade Kingdom, which is known to have yellow Power Moons. This would seem to indicate that the scene in the artwork pictured is not actually of the Cascade Kingdom, but of a potential seventh Kingdom.
As it stands, Super Mario Odyssey is confirmed to include the Metro Kingdom, Sand Kingdom, Wooded Kingdom, Luncheon Kingdom, Cascade Kingdom, and Cap Kingdom. There has been no official word from Nintendo over how many Kingdoms the game has in total.
Super Mario Odyssey is slated to launch on October 27 for the Nintendo Switch.
