SEGA has revealed a new trailer for Sonic Forces — the next 3D platformer featuring Sonic the Hedgehog –that sheds light on Infinite, a new villain to the series.
Titled “Enter Infinite”, the minute-long clip was published last Thursday, July 20. This video gives fans the first “extended” look at Infinite, showing off more of his design as well as voice and some potential abilities. Still light on concrete story details, he is at least remarked as being faster than Sonic and displays both melee and fighting abilities, handling the blue hero with relative ease. At this point, it is not clear where in the story these scenes take place, but it does appear that the trailer is a compilation of two or more spliced together.
Aside from Infinite himself, the trailer grants another look at Eggman as well as the other characters, being Shadow, Metal Sonic, Chaos, and Zavok. For the latter four, it has not yet been identified as to what reason they have for reappearing or what connection they have to Infinite. However, it is worth noting that Shadow’s eyes appear to be altered, perhaps indicating a type of mind control over him. Fan speculation has escalated since E3 over both Shadow and Chaos’ potential roles as villains once again, especially due to the fact that they have both featured heroic character arcs in the past.
In addition to the Infinite trailer, SEGA also published an audio clip for Forces, unveiling the character’s theme. Featuring both Tyler Smith and Andy Bane from the rock-rap group Dangerkids, fans have commented that this gives the new dark villain an extra element of “edgyness” to go along with his already quite anime-like persona.
While no release date has yet been given for Sonic Forces, the game is still expected to release this holiday season for Xbox One, Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
