Acclaimed fighting game developer Arc System Works has officially unveiled BLAZBLUE CROSS TAG BATTLE, a new crossover fighting game set for release on consoles in 2018.
Following the EVO Championship Series Grand Finals for Blazblue: CentralFiction this past Sunday, a gameplay trailer for the unexpected upcoming brawler was debuted. The game looks to bring together multiple characters from Arc System Works’ Blazblue and Persona 4 Arena, as well as developer French Bread’s Under Night In-Birth and Rooster Teeth’s RWBY web series. Featured so far are characters Ragna the Bloodedge and Jin Kisaragi (Blazblue), Yu Narukami (P4A), Hyde Kido (UNIB), and Ruby Rose (RWBY). It is unknown at this time which or how many other characters from the series represented will be playable in-game.
Based on the footage shown so far, the 2D fighter will utilize a 2v2 tag system similar to that of previous Marvel vs Capcom titles, allowing for players to swap out and use characters as assists on the fly. However, it is yet to be seen how Arc System Works’ will be integrating and mixing the differing mechanics from each game so as to keep the integrity of the original games intact.
As it stands, BLAZBLUE CROSS TAG BATTLE is slated to release in 2018, but it is unknown for which platforms. Previous Blazblue titles have released on Playstation, Xbox, and PC, yet there is potential that the newly announced crossover may be the unnamed Blazblue installment for Nintendo Switch that was confirmed to be in development back in January. Arc System Works has yet to comment on this, however.
